Who will be king maker? Chandrababu or Jagan

The statement of the Samajwadi supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav that a third front would come to power in the 2014 elections enthused the TDP chief Chandra Babu Naidu.

Naidu made attempts to forge a third front without Congress and BJP earlier. However, he received a lukewarm response for it. Even Mulayam Singh Yadav had not positively responded to the proposal.

Now with Mulayam predicting future for the third front, sources say that Naidu was hoping to play a greater role in national politics. TDP leaders are already stating that Naidu would be a king-maker in 2014.

But the YSR Congress leaders are also hoping that their chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy would be the king-maker in 2014.

Congress MP KVP Ramachandra Rao had already started efforts to forge a rapport with the YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy to bring the UPA back to power and make Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister in 2014. KVP recently sent Jagan’s close confidents MP Sabbam Hari and YV Subba Reddy to Chanchalguda jail with a message that he should join hands with the Congress, as it was his late father Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s wish that Rahul should become the Prime Minister. KVP also reportedly sent an assurance to Jagan that he would be out of his troubles once he joins hands with the Congress. Jagan reportedly gave his nod for the proposal.

For Jagan, capturing power in the state appears to be of more importance than whoever might come to power at the center. He had already stated that his party would support the UPA and would even join the government. He said his party would accept a key ministry like the railways, so that the state could be developed.

Now with the Congress debacle in UP, Mulayam came to the conclusion that Congress could be kept off power in 2014. He said the charisma of Rajiv Gandhi’s children Rahul and Priyanka was no longer working.

Mulayam expressed anger at Congress by charging that it got CBI chase him only to force him into submission. Now with the statement of Mulayam, Naidu would once again start his efforts to forge the third front, say TDP sources.

Naidu, presently touring Guntur district as part of his Vastunnaa Meekosam pada yatra, has reportedly talked to his close lieutenants on the possibility of forging a third front with the participation of the communist parties. Though the communists in the state had no strength to win Lok Sabha elections, they have enough strength to tilt the balance one way or the other. It is the belief of the TDP leaders that the party could easily have won the Assembly elections and won maximum number of Lok Sabha seats in 2009, but for the presence of Chiranjeevi’s PRP. They feel that as the anti-incumbency votes were split between the opposition front forged by Naidu and the PRP, his party had lost. Now Naidu appears to be confident that by forging a new front, his party would surely win the Assembly elections and win more Lok Sabha seats.

But observers point out that the same situation was prevailing now. Because of the presence of the YSRCP, Naidu would not be able to fulfill his dreams, say some observers. However, TDP leaders are stating that the sympathy for Jagan was already waning out and by 2014 elections it would be totally eroded. They say that there would be no Jagan factor by the next elections.
